The latest news is the development from Vail is about the development of three enormous north-facing bowls across the valley. It is a major expansion into untouched bowls officially known as Category III, which includes 3,000 acres and two named bowls: Pete's Bowl (named for Vail co-founder Pete Seibert) to the east, and Super Bowl to the west. The bowls drop about 2,000 vertical feet. Under the plan, about half of the new area will be developed for skiing, including 400 acres of open bowls, 300 acres of enhanced glade skiing, and 200 acres of conventional trails. Another 1,000 acres of challenging, undeveloped terrain will be given over to experts-only tree skiing, steep faces, and cornices; skiers will have to hike in and out. At the top of the Eagle Bahn Gondola at the 10,350-foot elevation, is the Adventure Ridge at Eagle's Nest, a winter recreational park for nighttime entertainment. Eagle's Nest has ice-skating; a snowboard terrain park, a kiddie sledding hill, a firepit, a beginner's ski area, and opportunities for snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Visitors will be able to ride the Gondola up to the Adventure Park at night for a Pizzeria and a Gourmet Restaurant. |
